I can't get into fic for cartoons/animated shows either no matter how much I love them, but for some reason video games work?

Yup. But this is true for me for most things I like. Only a few things hit that spot where I want to fandom them.

I like them best when they're written in the style of the sitcom but so few fic get that right.

as I sit here watching an old sitcom, I get it. Sitcoms by nature are very formulaic, and even with character or plot arcs spanning a season or series, have very encapsulated episodes which make it hard to find anything worth exploring in fic. Plus, we all know we can't write jokes like sitcom writers with a formula and laugh track to keep them focused and on beat. There's a different flow to the narrative compared to dramas, movies, games, books, etc.

I’ve been told you can get good fics out of sitcoms by defying the genre, e.g. by allowing Seinfeld to grow as a person. Never got into that myself though.

Skill issue! Used to read lots of m/m fic of HIMYM and TBBT back in the day. Not sure if any of it was truly good or on par with the comedy writing.. But the fandoms were really small, and lots of the fic het.

Dr. Seuss is not widely known in my country, I did not know anything of his works as a child.

I finally watched The Lorax couple of years ago to get the memes and tumblr fandom lore... And I sorta get why tumblr would ship a lanky whiteboy with himself, but the Lorax and Onceler had actual relationship, heartbreak and all! It was emotional! I had no idea!

But I guess tumblr teens just didn't want a short, 'stached environmentalist king to have a good time.

N!S: I haven't locked down my fic to protect it from AI scraping, even though it really bothers me.

S: I keep them public because, when I'm feeling down about myself, I like to give myself anonymous kudos to make me feel better, and if I locked them all down I wouldn't be able to do that any more.

If you turn on the TV on a random episode, and Homer sounds like Walter Matthau, then it is gonna be funny. Also, if you are under thirty, it is gonna have several weird references in it you just cannot get. That's okay, they are the jokes for us olds.

I never liked the Japanese explanation of why Tawna left the Crash franchise after crash 2. According to the japanese manual for Crash 2 Tawna left Crash for Pinstripe. I always disliked that because I feel it makes Tawna come off as an Ungrateful Bitch.

For some reason I just can't pin down, I don't like Billie Eilish. Her music is fine, but her as a person, I don't connect with.

(I love Olivia Rodrigo and like Sabrina Carpenter well enough, absolutely adore Chappell Roan, so it's not an age thing, but something about Billie rubs me the wrong way.)

I'm not saying that Reddit used to be a great place, but wow do I ever feel like it has gone downhill. If I look at the app on my phone instead of my PC, it wants to suggest content to me, and it shows the most depressing garbage you can imagine. So.many.ragebait.stories. So many. A lot of them are probably written with AI too, but so many are just transparently fake clickbait and ragebait. Nothing on there feels authentic anymore. It's definitely time for me to spend a lot less time on that site. I still will check the specific subreddits that I enjoy using, but no longer will I just look at the main page or browse around.
