My understanding of the situation is that Hank used to own a youtube channel called SciShow. He handed it over when he got cancer so that he no longer writes all the episodes but he does still host episodes. He hosted an episode that had something to do with scientists learning new things from knitted materials. It was mostly a showcase of the science of knitting but the episode got criticism because it came off as mysoginistic to some viewers because of how it was presented. Hank mostly did not respond. I think he said something on his personal blog but I didn't see it so I can't say what he said. The writer who wrote the episode added a pinned comment addressing the controversy that was not well received. They ended up deleting the video.

Hank was pretty quiet about the situation until recently. He was recommended a book about textiles, I guess, and he read it. 4 weeks ago, he uploaded a video interviewing the author of that book where he discusses the situation at the beginning and then talks to her about the science of knitting and textiles. Her books does sound interesting.
