There was a whole weird thing where she and Gabrielle were crucified by Julius Caesar and went to heaven but then Xena gave up being in heaven to get Callisto out of hell and became a demon in Callisto's place. Then there was some kind of battle between angels and demons and they both got resurrected and Xena got like divinely impregnated with Callisto's soul. It was a weird season premiere.

Anyway the main thing I remember about this episode was I watched it in middle school and usually I watched the show on a weekend morning airing but there was a different channel which showed it late Monday night and I stayed up the watch the premiere. The next day my middle school band director (who was a super uptight Christian guy) claimed he'd been 'flipping channels' and found a show he didn't name but he used the angel/demon fight as a metaphor and I think I was the only kid in the band who knew our band director had possibly indirectly admitted to watching Xena.

This seems like such a weird direction for the show to go in. Do you remember if they just dropped all the Greek gods? Or did they just have a world that had all the gods and afterlifes existing together (bit separate)? I'm about to dive down a Xena wiki rabbit hole 😆

As I recall at the time other gods just…coexisted with the Greek pantheon, but then Xena’s baby was prophesied to kill the Greek gods (except Xena killed a bunch for messing with her baby). Some of the ‘good’ ones like Aphrodite survived and were just there, I think something happened with her in the last season but tbh I dipped on the final season because I hated the time skip so much.
