Putting on my tinfoil conspiracy theory hat here, but I think he was pushed forward by hollywood to become the next desired young celebrity that 'everyone must love' like the modern day Johnny Depp or Leonardo DeCaprio, because people have cared less and less about hollywood actors in recent years.
Of course there's still an audience and always will be, but its definitely shrunken down and peoples interests in online influencers/creators/entertainers/etc has taken away the attention that hollywood desperately want actors like Timothy to have.

I thought Timothee Chalamet was a good actor due to the "being online osmosis" effect and all the gushing you see about him, and then I watched 3 films he's in and I don't understand why he's so highly praised? Granted, he didn't play that important a character in Lady Bird, Don't Look Up or Little Women (2019), but with all the praise everyone's always throwing at him, I expected to be wowed. Felt like I was watching a twink emote in a high school production for all three of those films.

I feel like his reputation might in part be his looks, in part coasting on his very dramatic roles in Call Me By Your Name and Beautiful Boy, and in part being an It Boy (getting cast in so much that everyone kind of assumes he must be good to get cast in so much). I have seen him in two movies, and he wasn't bad in either, but he didn't wow me. I thought he was perfectly serviceable in Dune: Part One and hokey in Wonka (but that seemed to be what the movie was going for so I'm not really sure what to do with that).

I agree. He's (IMO) unusually good-looking in a distinctive "off" sort of way, but I've seen him in several lead roles, and there's just nothing really distinctive about him other than his appearance.

Eh. I feel like this stuff is so subjective. Other than flat out horrible, dead line-readings and whatnot, what makes someone a 'bad' actor? Sure, there are AWESOME actors (Meryl Streep), but even the random low-key non-acting done, by say, Rebel-whatshername is more than *I* could do consistently or even once, so....
It's hard for me to judge someone who is doing big or complicated roles on if they're 'bad' or just 'not to my taste'.
I recently watched him in 'Marty Supreme' and that was very different and kind of weird and I thought he did a good job. And I didn't particularly like the movie. So...I dunno.

I don't get it, either. I've only seen him in "The King" and "Little Women". He was fine. But I don't know what about him has gotten him labeled as one of Hollywood's rising stars.

Wheaton's Law is "don't be a dick" but I've always thought that was weird because Wil Wheaton is often kind of a dick.

My biggest complaint about this movie was Blanc’s overt Andrew Lloyd Webber fandom. I wanted to hear more Sondheim music. It’s okay to like both composers. I like both composers.

But Blanc already dropped an Into the Woods reference in his dialogue, and the themes of truth-seeking, forgiveness, and broken parental relationships were RIGHT THERE! Instead Rian Johnson made lazy jokes about Cats and POTO.

I heard Johnson’s a big ALW fan. MY THEORY: He’s fishing for an ALW cameo in Knives Out 4.

N/S: I am more than fine with the gender change from Michael Stirling to Michaela Stirling. Pretty much every male lead we’ve seen has been shoved into the rake mold, let’s have a woman try it on for size.

Secret: I wish Michaela Stirling had gotten the “forget your own name” moment Violet was talking about in the Season 3 finale instead of Francesca, for a couple reasons.

1) It likely would have gone a long way to smooth the idea of Michaela Stirling being a woman over with the purist book fandom to at least have the essence of their first meeting (Michael falling for Francesca at first sight) be the same, rather than have it nearly completely inverted.
2) So much of Francesca’s arc in Season 3 was arguing to her mother that even if her love for John Stirling was a quieter love than Violet had experienced with Francesca’s father, it was a true love nonetheless, and that moment pretty much undermined Francesca’s entire point and proved Violet right.
2a) This is especially frustrating considering the implication presented by the series that Francesca is neurodivergent, and being neurodivergent myself, I think I related to Francesca’s situation… a lot.

I'm sort of glad (as both a pagan and enjoyer of Greek myth) that the tale of Dionysus and Ariadne isn't more widely acknowledged outside of online circles. They're lowkey my favourite couple and I'm glad they're not being ruined the same way Hades and Persephone get ruined. Bonus points for me since I'm a Dionysian.

Lately things have been so messy and weird and kinda difficult for me that my biggest joy are Heated Rivalry interviews but I have only seen the show through gifs and clips and don't really care for the smut (ace anon here) though I do think it's done very tastefully. The photography as a whole is amazing

This week I found out that a lot of people in the ST fandom ship Will/Mike.

I'm not shocked people ship it to begin with, tbh any ships involved the 6 kids make sense if we're looking at their dynamics in that way.

No, what absolutely floored me is that there are folks out there who think that Will/Mike was going to happen? And this it was a legit, planned out romance? That they were baited with this ship???

This isn't even loosing chess to a dog levels of idiocy, this is just straight up refusing to have a brain.
