This is not at all what this secret is getting at. Old fans (typically and rightfully) criticize the new material because a bunch of people who have no love for or often even knowledge about the old material created something entirely different and often downright disrespectful to the old material and then slapped the name on it.

And thus that disrespect and lack of care shows a greater amount of hate towards the material than any criticism of the new material does.

Sorry, I'm genuinely having a hard time understanding this secret. So basically it's saying if you like the newer movies/shows you hate the original material? And that the newer stuff isn't real Trek/Wars and just made by people looking to make a buck?

But that's not what the secret says. The secret says that the modern fanbase hates the old material. It says nothing about older fans criticizing the new material, nor does it say that modern writers/show runners/directors/etc hate the new material.

You're assuming that OP meant to say something different from what's in the text.
