I kinda understand early seasons Gul Dukat. I'm not down with the mass murder, ideally, but if you want to live a comfortable and secure life then you gotta play nice with the society you find yourselves in. You gotta do what you gotta do to get by. Later seasons religious nutter Dukat, that is a different story.

Now where is my statue, goddammit!?

Yeah, but even then Dukat was known as particularly shitty, what with the Bajoran sex slaves that he liked to think were there of their own free will. He goes a lot further than "just getting along", but I absolutely agree that he considered himself a regular, even nice, guy in tough times. That's what made him a great villain!
