So, Timothee Chalamet secret OPs (posts 6947 & 6953)

What do we think now that he's received his third Oscar nod? I'm still kind of baffled, but maybe I just haven't seen the right performances. Or maybe I'm just not seeing what some people obviously are. I don't think he's a bad actor, just none of the acting I've seen from him really stands out to me.

Not either OP, but think it is further proof the Oscars are about money amd popularity, not talent.

What have you seen him in?

Dune, Wonka, Saturday Night Live, and something else on TV, I think.

Ever consider watching one of the films he’s been nominated for? That probably sounds flippant but I’m serious. You seem convinced that he isn’t deserving of the three best actor Oscar nominations he’s had but you haven’t watched any of the nominated performances.

ayrt

Not really. None of them are things I want to watch (a lot of the movies that get nods these days are not my thing). But with many other actors, when they are getting a lot of accolades, I can see that they are great actors in other works that they've done, not just prestige pieces. Like, I can watch Meryl Streep or Leonardo DiCaprio in non-nominated performances and I can see how well they act, even in movies that I end up not liking. I guess I kind of expect someone purported to be a great actor to often be good or really good in other things. And yeah, not every role is going to be a winner, of course, but if every one that I see is just okay, well, it does sort of make me wonder.

Same here. I've seen him in a few things, and none of his performances blew me away. I don't think he's bad at all, but I guess I haven't seen any of the ones where he was just fantastic.

Not OP, but I'm baffled as well. I mean maybe he does a very good job in the movies I can't be arsed to watch-- I'll never find out! Nothing could convince me to watch Marty Supreme, let alone Lady Bird, nor do I see myself watching the recent Little Women... Call Me By Your Name sadly fell into the category of 'queer media that I'm already bored of before reading/watching it', and I say this as a gay man who has read... I couldn't tell you how many words of inappropriate age gap romance, but could not enjoy that one and life's too short.

I did actually enjoy Chalomet more than I expected to on SNL... but he pops up in so many things that I get sick of seeing him without ever watching the movies he does-- again, he might do very well in them, but most of them aren't my idea of a good time. I may eventually watch Dune, I enjoy sci-fi and I love a couple of the other actors... but I haven't prioritized it.

I think he's fine. I feel the way you do about Timothee Chalamet about Jennifer Lawrence. I was definitely NOT seeing what everyone else saw in her. I didn't like most of her performances in anything.

Personally, I think the best things he's ever made were Tiny Horse 1&2. I genuinely don't think anything Chalamet will ever make or any performance he'll ever give could ever measure up to Tiny Horse 1, and especially not to the masterpiece that is Tiny Horse 2: Giant Horse.

Theeeere he is, my tiny horse...

I'm sorta on the same boat. Granted, I've only seen him in Dune 2 and a little bit of Little Women. Maybe if I watch Marty Supreme I'll have a more concrete opinion?

It was a Safdie Bros movie that convinced me Robert Pattinson is a serious actor so...
