Eh, sometimes Asian or Asian-American filmmakers add a white guy to draw in the white audience.

To be less flippant, the characters who seem similar to me tend to be the “smart” characters. Not that I’m smart exactly, but I think of the sort of things a D&D-derived video game only lets you say if you have a high Intelligence score. And it stung to realize most of those characters wouldn’t get to be protagonists because so many writers thought absolute morons would be more “relatable” to their target audience. So I guess I am asking for protags to be relatable to me—not all the time, but I appreciate it when I can find it.
