I'm perfectly fine with being deemed Problematic for worrying about kin shit. At best, they're just super into or inspired by a character, and that's totally fine! Not the terminology I would use for having an absolute fave or two, but I respect it. But more often than not, I've seen it used as a bludgeon (either of the "I'm right and you're wrong" variety or the "everyone listen to me, I AM [Character]" variety), and at worst, it's veering into or outright involving actual cult tactics of in-group specialness.

And yes, I've had bad personal experiences with the bludgeoning variety, but I've also had friends get hurt by cult tactics in fandom spaces, so I'd rather be kind of an asshole to some attention-seekers than promote that path.
