Are you doing it every day? Do you NEED to drink to feel okay? Doing it in secret is a red flag.

No, there are days when I've not done it and had no bad effects. I do most days, but sometimes I can't or don't and it's fine.

The secrecy probably isn't good but people seem to have a problem with drinking during the day that they don't have with drinking during the evening/night.

Yeah, most days is a problem. I'd have a bigger problem with someone secretly drinking during the day than openly.

DA

People are probably pointing at the secret part because most rational adults wouldn't judge you if you decided to relax on the couch with a beer and a movie at 3pm. Who cares, if you're not hurting anyone? How would anyone else even know you're doing it? Why does the number on the clock matter?

But if you're actively hiding or lying about it or can't talk about it, that sounds like other factors might be playing in. Are you drinking while... doing a job where you aren't supposed to be drinking? Being around or responsible for kids? Is it the amount that you drink throughout the day, or the number of times you stop have a drink, that you think is shameful? Etc

I'm not around kids, and it's not affecting my job.

I suppose I keep it secret because people seem to judge drinking early? I wouldn't be ashamed of having a beer on the couch at 3 PM either, but people might have a problem with someone drinking early in the morning. I've never outright lied about it since no one's asked, but I don't let them see it (well, I don't let them see what I'm drinking).
