I loved Chandler and Monica getting together because they were able to take each other's shit. They had patience for each other that their other friends didn't so much for them.

Someone else mentioned and I agree, Richard having seen Monica grow up made their relationship really weird. Even when it originally aired I found it unsettling. Richard and Monica made a lovely couple despite that, but I was relieved when they broke up.
Also, it was really mature of Monica to break up with Richard when she realized they wanted different things, even after Richard was like, "I'll have a kid for you."
She knew that in order to have a child, she needed her partner to want a child too. Not just because he wants to make her happy.
Too often, I saw so many couples become miserable because someone made a sacrifice in regards to whether or not they want kids.
