Transcript – Taylor Swift

I wish Taylor Swift would do a book club. I love reading, and I love her music and the general Swiftie fandom, and I think it would be so amazing to have both at once. Maybe someday! :)

Imagine the scrutiny every single book choice and its politics, real or imaginary, would get.

Yyyyeah, like no matter what books they are, people are going to have so many Opinions. If it's some weighty nonfiction thing or a frothy romance, or ANYTHING in between, someone is going to trot out a laundry list of why it's the worst possible choice...

This is true, but every single thing this woman does or doesn't do is heavily scrutinized. The only way she can avoid scrutiny is if she retires and hides from everyone. At a certain point, you have to say who cares, fuck 'em, and do what you want. Let them scrutinize and write think pieces and film hundreds of hours of video dissecting everything. They already do that to her, so if she wanted to do a book club, why not?

The comment said nothing about what Swift should or shouldn't do. It was a neutral remark that people would be dramatic over it.

Yeah, she's used to being overanalyzed no matter what! I guess she went to a Grammys after party but not the actual Grammys and someone posted a clip of that and like it was just her talking to some people, but of course it gets blown up into much more than it actually is. Not to mention the clickbait of articles saying "Taylor received no Grammy noms this year! Click here to see why" when her album wasn't eligible because it was released past the cutoff date.

And the ~video essays~ about her!!! LOL it is ridiculous. I have tried to watch one or two but they always piss me off because they get basic facts wrong, or sometimes they're like, "I'm not sure when this happened" and it's like um GOOGLE IT THEN?? That pisses me off with all YouTube videos actually. When they say they don't know something that could be googled in seconds.

Not to mention all the snotty lit-heads judging the literary side of things.

He saved her from the fate of Ophelia. Her terrible taste in men(and bad romantic choices) was driving her mad and he came along and proved to her that men aren't rat shit all of the time. It doesn't have to be a one to one match for the metaphor to work. Jesus fucking H. Christ.

Poor Ophelia. Too bad no one could save her from the fate of having her complex and tragic storyline rewritten to be “died of bad taste in men.”

I have no strong feelings towards her but I bet this is a book club where a lot of participants would actually participate.

(Anonymous) 2026-02-04 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
I agree.

I sometimes complain about the booktok crap flooding the market but I can't really mind that much when it has encouraged a bunch of people to read who weren't doing so before the influencers. I bet a TSwift book club wouod get a lot of people joining the ranks of readers.

(Anonymous) 2026-02-04 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
Ohhh yeah, if she did a book club, it would immediately catapult whatever book she chose each month or quarter or whatever to the top of the best seller list.

In the absence of an official Taylor Swift book club, OP, if you have a group of bookish swiftie friends, maybe you could start your own? Take turns picking books that give you the vibe of different songs or albums?

the problem with celebrity book clubs is often they are less about books chosen by the celebrity and more about books being pushed by publishers who pay the celebrity to showcase them. So I'm pretty sure any book club held by Taylor Swift would have the same books you would find in any booktok/booktube video, and whatever is on the best selling book list at the time.

(Anonymous) 2026-02-04 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, this is my problem with celebrity book clubs too. If she did an authentic book club of stuff she is actually interested in I think that would be amazing. But most celebrity book clubs are just backed by the publishers who are trying to sell specific titles.

I had never thought of this before but you're right! Kinda sucks.

(Anonymous) 2026-02-04 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
She should totally do a book club with Travis! I bet she could get him into reading and she would have so much fun explaining all the metaphors to him!

(Anonymous) 2026-02-04 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
lol

(Anonymous) 2026-02-04 12:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I think she'd have to learn how to write a metaphor first

(Anonymous) 2026-02-04 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not even a huge fan of her and I honestly think that would be fun.

(Anonymous) 2026-02-04 01:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Taylor Swift would probably enjoy being part of a online book club anonymously, where she could actually engage with the other book club members and discuss ideas and interpretations of the books without everyone immediately deferring to her opinion. At the end of the year, she could post a list of the books she read and what she did or didn’t like about them.

I think TS could pull an Oprah. She could support a whole magazine, channel, book club, whatever. I don't know that it would be "good" but I know she could make it work.
