I think there are some things that are objectively "adult" and objectively "childish," and I think the notion that we all just get to decide what being an adult means is ultimately a way to avoid a lot of things we don't want to face.

Perhaps, but I also think of CS Lewis' famous quote (though it may be that he knew when you definitely had to put away childish things, if only for a while).
