I know James Doohan was Canadian, and Nick Meyer and Gene Rodenberry American, but it still super bugs me that Scotty was not playing "Flowers of the Forest" during Spock's funeral in "Wrath of Khan". It should have been "Flowers of the Forest", honestly it should.

I don't know that song... but it was Spocks funeral. He's Vulcan. What does Scotty or any other characters actors nationality have to do with what song they played? Actually asking.

Yeah, I’m genuinely curious about OP’s thinking for exactly this reason

DA It's a bagpipe song that's only played at funerals. It's not the only song they might play, but it's a very likely one. Amazing Grace (which is what they used in the movie) is also very commonly played!

Ayrt

Ahh, that makes sense.
Also I might be severely offended by OP not only listing Scotty first (or at all, wtf does his actor of all characters have to do with what the soundtrack used) but also having the gall to pretend that Amazing Grace would ever be first choice for a Canadian. Osmosis is a thing, but that is 100% an American song.

I can’t tell if you’re just looking for things to be offended by, have zero familiarity with the movie being discussed, or are actually confused about why the character playing the bagpipes was listed first in a secret about the song he was playing. Nice work!

Amazing Grace was written by an Angelican (English) clergyman, ffs.

Their nationalities are mentioned because the character is Scottish, but since the actor is Canadian (and the director and creator are American), they wouldn't necessarily know this Scottish cultural thing.

In universe, I imagine Kirk was the one who requested Scotty play Amazing Grace, bec a) he was the closest to Spock; and b) he's the captain and probably dictated what would happen in the service; and c) he's an American from Iowa.
