I find it annoying that whenever a celebrity who allegedly did something problematic in life, dies there is a group of killjoys who are quick to remind everyone what the celebrity did, even before the body is cold and imply anyone who mourns the celeb is a bad person or ignorant. THe deaths of Kobe Bryant and XXXtencion were prime examples of this. When Kobe Bryant died people came out of the woodwork to rag on him for being an alleged rapist and gave people shit for "mourning a rapist" . XXXtencion was ragged on for being an alleged abuser. The worst part is tha tmost of the people doing this had nothing to say about their alleged crimes when they died? When they died , people suddenly care about tehir alleged crimes? Where was the outrage over kobe being a rapist when he was alive?

I get what you're saying, but people quite literally were talking about their abuse allegations before they died. I dunno what communities or people you talk to, but this discussion was happening before both of these examples died. Weird post ngl.

I was going to say the exact same thing. I heard plenty of people talking about this stuff when Kobe was still alive.

DA

I actually lived in the area where the trial for Kobe was taking place when it happened. and remember how big the news coverage was. Always weird to see your area on TV and in the papers like that.

The moment Kobe Bryant's allegations were in the news, we talked about it at school. I dunno if that's normal for schools to do, but my classmates and one teacher were talking about how awful it was. Social media bloggers were also talking about XXXtencion being a terrible person long before he died.

I think normally, it's less "We only care about this now that they've died" and more "We haven't stopped caring about this just because they've died."

I could agree with the secret in theory, if we were talking about people where no one had been talking about it and suddenly people were talking about after died (with no new evidence to support it happened). But these are really bad examples to use because people absolutely were talking about it, the evidence was absolutely there before they died.

The victim from Kobe's case got doxxed by fans so I wouldn't be surprised if anyone was cautious. People did talk it about it anyway while he was alive but it definitely got pushed to the side, much like it has in the case of many famous people who had similar allegations. I feel it's more of others trying remind people that wait, yes, this is still part of the story. Don't forget. The only part I remember finding weird was Lisa Leslie getting asked about it after he died when I don't recall them doing anything similar they didn't while he was alive. Bad timing there. (Don't know enough about XXXtencion to comment on him)

People were absolutely talking about the allegations while they were still alive, maybe you didn't see it OP but that doesn't mean it wasn't happening. And guess what? Someone dying does not mean that their, alleged, actions are somehow free of criticism and hate, that's not how this works. I can think someone is a sack of shit while they're alive and dead, miss me with that glorifying the dead bullshit.

I hope when you die, someone brings up all the alleged bad things you did in your life to your grieving friends/loved ones while telling them not to mourn you. I hope someone talks trash about you when you die.

omg fuckin touch grass already

(Anonymous) 2026-02-21 07:20 am (UTC)(link)
If I did something as bad as these two, my loved ones should 100% be made aware.

(Anonymous) 2026-02-21 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Buddy if I abused people and raped them I would absolutely be fine with them shit-talking me when I'm dead, hell I'm perfectly fine with people doing it even if I don't do anything like that because I'll be fucking dead and won't care.

Get bent.

(Anonymous) 2026-02-21 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
That's nice. And do you attend spaces where people are grieving someone and start screaming about all the ways that someone was horrible and how everyone is wrong for grieving? Because that's not the flex you think it is.

Nobody is saying a celeb is immune from criticism. OP seems to not know the criticism was also taking place during the celebrities' lives, but they have a point in that there is a time and place for everything. If you think a place where people are grieving is appropriate for listing the deceased's every sin, alleged or otherwise, then you're no better than whomever you're criticizing.

Never claimed I was, but if I see you shedding tears over a fucking cunt I'm absolutely going to mock you for shedding tears over a fucking cunt.

(Anonymous) 2026-02-21 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
If there actually is truth about allegations, I don't think death should absolve celebrities of any wrongdoing.
But in cases like when people were trying to smear David Bowie straight after his death because of the "well known groupie who unapologetically chased celebrities while pretending to be older including a fake ID" thing... yeah that's not it.

Reminds me of that Onion article titled something like "Guy At Party Reminds Every One John Lennon Was A Wife Beater"
