Ah ok. Thats maybe a perspective thing. Tbh in fandom I've had too much experience with dedicated haters of a thing who use "stan" to refer to anyone who likes it - usually because the hater doesn't realize how attack-y they word their criticisms.

I know actual obsessive stans DO exist. I just have a lot of experience with people who think stans are just whoever dares like the thing they hate.

My bad :/

Ive bad bad past experiences with some very....all-or-nothing type people.

Nah I mean real Stan stans. Like their random ship or else you're a bigot IRL that deserves to be harassed, other shippers should be driven to suicide, their beloved celeb can do no wrong no matter what they do, all is forgiven up to and including IRL abuse, how dare you call the abuser an abuser, Stans

Okay those kind of stans suck but. Haters also engage in similar behavior. "You like that show. Well did you know there's receipts the creator said/did this? So congrats you're a bigot"


There are haters okay with driving fans of their hated things to suicide because they like it.

Based on comments ive seen from you your preference for haters seems to be "well they're not bugging ME about it"

I don't see why we should have to pick EITHER breed of asshole honestly but OP seems dead set on arguing that haters are TOTALLY different.
