I don't think Umineko was worth the effort fans put into solving its mysteries.

I don't know if I'd say that Benoit Blanc is THE greatest fictional detective since Sherlock Holmes but he sure as hell is one of the most enjoyable to watch on screen since Jeremy Brett's Holmes. It's a rarity when a franchise takes the time to so fully flesh out a character and have him be not just intelligent, and perceptive, which you'd expect a detective to be. But <icompassionate</i. And his ability to empathize and see the humanity in the people he interacts with is one of his strengths as a human being and as a detective. It's beautiful to watch. I also didn't really rate Daniel Craig much as James Bond (he was fine, not my fave) but in this, he knocks it out of the goddamn park. I hope the Knives Out series continues for as long as he and Rian Johnson feel like making them.

I like Paul Feig's comedies more than his thrillers

Games thread!

San Remo!

Anyone else watching?

(Anonymous) 2026-02-25 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Given none of his movies are actual mysteries I wouldn't argue him being the best detective ever.

Yeah, I'm not sending money to people I don't personally know, especially people with a circle full of rich friends.

Parasocial relationship stops at enjoying the output and buying movie tickets, sorry.

I don't know about this specific scenario, but celebrity=/=rich. A lot of famous people are screwed by their agent/manager/label/parents.

lol <3

What did we learn about Van Der Beek's?

Honestly, I never assume an American is okay financially if they get sick.

Oh, there's a whole bunch of Thrawn fans whose only joy in life is tearing things down because they're not as good as the version of Thrawn that lives in their heads. Even if you made it 100% perfect for one fan the rest of them would descend on it screaming.

Yes, they are. It's just not necessarily the murder that's the mystery.

What's that?

What did we learn after Van Der Beek’s? I feel like we knew at least months before he died about his financial struggles and it was pretty well known for many years that he didn’t get anything from Dawson’s Creek or Varsity Blues.

I’d think you’d be more upset about Dane since he didn’t have the same struggles and his wife is a celebrity, too. Both of his kids are taken care of and so were most of his medical expenses, which is in stark contrast to JVDB’s situation.
