I don't think Umineko was worth the effort fans put into solving its mysteries.

I don't know if I'd say that Benoit Blanc is THE greatest fictional detective since Sherlock Holmes but he sure as hell is one of the most enjoyable to watch on screen since Jeremy Brett's Holmes. It's a rarity when a franchise takes the time to so fully flesh out a character and have him be not just intelligent, and perceptive, which you'd expect a detective to be. But <icompassionate</i. And his ability to empathize and see the humanity in the people he interacts with is one of his strengths as a human being and as a detective. It's beautiful to watch. I also didn't really rate Daniel Craig much as James Bond (he was fine, not my fave) but in this, he knocks it out of the goddamn park. I hope the Knives Out series continues for as long as he and Rian Johnson feel like making them.

Given none of his movies are actual mysteries I wouldn't argue him being the best detective ever.

(Anonymous) 2026-02-25 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, they are. It's just not necessarily the murder that's the mystery.

(Anonymous) 2026-02-25 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
ayrt

I actually forgot that more films came out after Glass Onion. But so long as they didn't follow the trend of laying everything out and then explain it all, then consider me simply uninformed.

Ive never cared for the Sherlock type character but I am here for Benoit Blank. I thought the last movie struggled but I did still enjoy it and will continue to watch the next one if/when it is made!

I like Paul Feig's comedies more than his thrillers

(Anonymous) 2026-02-25 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'm not sending money to people I don't personally know, especially people with a circle full of rich friends.

Parasocial relationship stops at enjoying the output and buying movie tickets, sorry.

(Anonymous) 2026-02-25 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know about this specific scenario, but celebrity=/=rich. A lot of famous people are screwed by their agent/manager/label/parents.

(Anonymous) 2026-02-25 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
What did we learn about Van Der Beek's?

Honestly, I never assume an American is okay financially if they get sick.

(Anonymous) 2026-02-25 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Idk what specifically OP is talking a out, but the wife/family set up a GoFundMe the day after Van der Beek died when they owned a multibillion dollar ranch (which they bought recently knowing he didn't have much time) and own a million(?) dollar property in CA that the rent out. So they fully have money, the could sell either or both properties, they just don't want to change their lifestyle and think they don't have to.

Also I think the wife is a homeopathic grifter type? Not clear on those deets though.

(Anonymous) 2026-02-25 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
They do not own a multibillion dollar ranch LOL They rent a farm and had been renting it for years before his diagnosis. And if your spouse just died the last thing you’d want to do is pack up your six kids and move. I’m actually in agreement in general about GFMs for celebs but honestly it’s wild watching people invent bullshit to justify their ick. Dude was selling shit off left and right to pay for treatment because he was American and didn’t qualify for insurance.

(Anonymous) 2026-02-25 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
"James Van Der Beek and his family officially purchased the Texas ranch they had been renting in 2020, making it their permanent home. The property, located in Spicewood near Austin, was bought for $4.76 million on January 9, 2026, just over a month before his death on February 11, 2026."

(Anonymous) 2026-02-25 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
They could sell it and downsize but *shrug* guess it's easier to ask random people to pay your bills than to take responsibility and make changes in your life.

(Anonymous) 2026-02-25 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
What did we learn after Van Der Beek’s? I feel like we knew at least months before he died about his financial struggles and it was pretty well known for many years that he didn’t get anything from Dawson’s Creek or Varsity Blues.

I’d think you’d be more upset about Dane since he didn’t have the same struggles and his wife is a celebrity, too. Both of his kids are taken care of and so were most of his medical expenses, which is in stark contrast to JVDB’s situation.

(Anonymous) 2026-02-25 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed. Its gross and predatory.

(Anonymous) 2026-02-25 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
He didn't get residual checks from Dawson's Creek. He wasn't rolling in dough.

(Anonymous) 2026-02-25 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
That's not really a judgment you can make without all the facts.

Not every celeb is rich, and not every decedent leaves adequate sums of money for their heirs.

Oh, there's a whole bunch of Thrawn fans whose only joy in life is tearing things down because they're not as good as the version of Thrawn that lives in their heads. Even if you made it 100% perfect for one fan the rest of them would descend on it screaming.

(Anonymous) 2026-02-25 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
lol <3

(Anonymous) 2026-02-25 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Not!Fun fact: Pringles consistently gave me diarrhea so I stopped eating them.

(Anonymous) 2026-02-25 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
No one needed to know that.

(Anonymous) 2026-02-25 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
The world needs to know.

(Anonymous) 2026-02-25 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
The world learns by seeing, not hearing. Secret #1 said so.

(Anonymous) 2026-02-25 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL

(Anonymous) 2026-02-25 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
It was really good bed chem?

(Anonymous) 2026-02-25 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I've never met a Pringle that wasn't tasty. But I do prefer other snacks more.

These days my favorite potato-based parabolas are the ones from The Good Crisp Company. The cheese ones are particularly nice.

Italian Music festival! The space shouldn't be there. It's always so much fun! (less since Amadeus stopped hosting, but still a lot of fun!)
