What hurts me the most when these things happen (yes, it's happened enough times that I have begun to treat it as Tuesday unfortunately) is mourning who I would've been if I didn't let people who didn't like me have access to me for 10, 20 years. And sometimes it's about me finding out the hurtful patterns I learned from being a disliked kid and how I instinctively go after people who dislike me to try and heal that small kid. Maybe the only reason why capitalism still thrives is that our animal sides enjoy trying to prove our worth to people who ultimately don't care, don't matter. Becoming is tough.
