I've heard this show is good, and the cast is good, but is there any sort of birth gore? I don't know if I could hack that.

Not really? I mean, blood happens, it's birth, but there's not like - graphic c-sections or whatever. I think you'd be okay with what is shown...the show is SO good, if a little uneven sometimes, but I could watch Jenny Agutter be a sweet, smart, tough, wise, and funny nun all damn day (and have). :D

I second that I don't think it's overly graphic. Yes, there may be some blood and such shown, but they don't show anyone's nether regions during the process. I'm a childfree person, childbirth wigs me out but I haven't had a problem with the show at all. IMHO the parts dealing with social issues (racism, abuse, neglect, etc) are tougher than the birth scenes.

Oh man, thanks for the heads up on the other stuff.

I'll give it a try (I'm like you.)

Nothing graphic but there are a lot of really sad stories with no real follow ups/conclusions. Like I love this show but I have to watch it sparingly because sometimes the situations are just depressing and I know it's based on reality which makes it even sadder.

It goes out, pre-watershed, on BBC One, so while they do deal with heavy themes and there is the old strawberry jam smeared on babies and bedsheets, they tastefully cut away to a reaction shot, or a nun, anytime there is anything actually graphic.
