My sympathies, OP. Also, your secret design is A+ hilarious.

I see people complain about "slow fandoms" on /r/AO3 all the time... and they use "slow fandom" to talk about a fandom where one or two fics are being posted a DAY or a WEEK... THAT IS NOT A SLOW FANDOM!! I look up some of my fandoms and I see less than 10 fics in FIVE YEARS! Then I look up another fandom: less than 20 fics in FIFTEEN YEARS. And of those small amounts of fics only some of them I want to read. STOP COMPLAINING ABOUT "ONLY ONE FIC A DAY"!!! YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW GOOD YOU HAVE IT!!!

(and yes for older canons I have looked elsewhere for fic like LiveJournal and fanfic.net and etc, but a lot of the stuff I'm interested in never got a huge fandom presence in general)

Agreed. Especially when those fandoms already have a huge fic count so you can have several months without something new but you still have plenty to sift through.

lol, maybe you can as OP from secret #6 for their super secret skillz for finding big fandoms?

The worst is when you come up with a ship and realise there's nothing for them. I gotta do everything myself around here.

You are so valid for feeling this way. But being in a large fandom that has slowed down significantly over time is still a bummer, and I can't fault anyone for saying they're sad about it.

Like, sure if there are 15K fics for their ship on AO3, and they haven't even done any deep mining yet, because there was always so much new stuff being posted that they just never had to bother digging for anything, then I have a distinct lack of sympathy for them. But I've shipped my current, mid-sized OTP for six years. I had mined the hell out of the ship tag on AO3 within the first year. By the second year I'd lowered my standards and made a second pass. By the third year I was reading stuff that involved actual squicks of mine, just so I could read some content for my ship that I hadn't read before. The fact that there is quite a bit of content for my OTP doesn't change the fact that I have picked that carcass clean and I'm hungry.

Yes, same here.

It's partly my fault. I have an unfinished WIP in my last fandom and another story altogether in a bigger fandom I haven't posted yet.

Really should get on those!
