Re: Personal question: do you have a good relationship with your parents?

That's a lovely relationship with your mom, I'm envious! While I've traveled with my parents both as a child and as an adult, I wouldn't do so again unless it was really short. They don't like doing research or planning, and if you do it, they'll complain about everything.

Condolences re: your dad. He's not the first man to use child custody disputes as a weapon, and I'm afraid he won't be the last.

I love traveling with my mom because she plans everything down to the last detail (even rest days)(seriously, she uses spreadsheets) and I have anxiety. So I know I can just sit back and she has everything in hand!

Also, yeah, I knew a whole slew of them because he was a men's rights activist dickhead who went to those conventions where they'd bring their kids as a show piece and then ignore us while they sat around drinking and complaining about how all women are bitches. I've yet to unpack that steamer trunk in therapy...

LOL, that's me when I plan for vacations - lists and stuff for the itinerary, hotel reservations, maps, tickets bought ahead of time if possible, etc. etc. I leave some flexibility and free time on the day to day stuff, but I don't leave home without having some idea of where I'm staying and how I'm going to get there.

The MRA activists are the pits, honestly. I worked with a few of them when I was younger and they (middle-aged right-leaning white guys, all of them) were so bitter about their divorces and paying child support for, you know, THEIR CHILDREN because they didn't want to give their ex-wife any money at all to punish her for leaving. One guy moaned constantly about how his ex poisoned their teenage daughter against him, and I couldn't help but think, "Really, Dennis? Are you sure she doesn't like you because you're a Bible-thumping bigot with a hang-up about women? Because that's why *I* don't like you."

MRAs are still around, swearing up and down that men get the short end of the stick in divorces because a system largely dominated by men somehow discriminates against them. As an adult, I found out that many men don't fight for custody at all, or only do so because they think it'll get them out of paying child support, or as a big fuck you to their exes. They weren't loving, hands-on fathers prior to the divorce, so naturally primary custody went to the person who was the primary caregiver, not the guy who can't remember his kids' birthdates.
