After not playing Genshin for 3 months I attempted this months imaginarium theater. And it reminded me why I quit in the first place.

FFS the developers took a perfectly good game an ruined it with AI generated plot and DPS check after DPS check, all to force f2p to spend on weapons and cons.

Granted, it might be very bad luck that I don't have Durin, Albedo, Lyney, Dahlia, Illuga (only guys I am missing + Xiao and Ifa) but I also felt very "you who only collect male characters shall not pass" about this months IT. And Genshin meta generally since IDK 2.x

Because while especially the whole Natlan plot kind of sucked and a lot about the game has a bit of "make it up as we go along" to it, it doesn't seem particularly AI.

Also... I don't necessarily think the optional challenges are too important. Yes, it sucks for us F2Pers when earnable Primos are locked behind "you need the newest character to get full marks" and general power creep but it's not like you HAVE to do the Theater and the Abyss thing.
I have plenty of my own criticisms for the game, don't get me wrong, I'm not a stan blindly defending it.

I play consistently, and I'd say if you think the plot is AI, you haven't been paying attention. There are some bits that seem like they probably went back and changed the original plan, but overall a lot of things from 1.x now make sense with the latest plot developments. The English script translation at least is... decent, if not great. It's not HSR levels of awful, though (I liked Amphoreous, but jesus christ).

This IT reset absolutely sucks, though. I haven't seen a single person who has liked it or had an easy time of it (well, minus the certain subset of whales who c6 every character, but that's probably less than 1% of the playerbase). The complaints this round will probably get heard by Hoyo, it's that bad. You came back at a particularly poor time, since IT isn't usually so horrible, imho.

Very relatable. I quit once I realized every new region was just going to introduce some new mechanic to defeat certain bosses that required you to pull and use the new characters as the mechanic would be exclusive to them. (Nightsoul, then Lunar Bloom). I also thought it was shitty we only got one male character who was a 5 star during Natlan. Game just isn't for me anymore. I don't regret quitting, wish I had done it sooner.

As much as I hated Natlan, at least you got either 4 star characters or the critters roaming around to get most mechanics working. I hate that the new Geo 4 star in Nod Krai can't do the new moon related geo effect on his own - you NEED to have Columbina or Zibai for that (which I don't have because Columbina annoys me and I wanted to save for Varka during Zibai). I actually really like Illuga as a character but he's pretty useless without this.

Of course you CAN still get through the game without all of that but it's still annoying and a lot of the higher stages of the endgame content that lets you earn additional primos is kind of softlocked without all the new characters.

Same! Came back to get Varka, did some endgame and went running back yelling "nope!". Heard through the grapevine that powercreepy has gotten worse in endgame after HSR's launch but since I don't do endgame in genshin, I have no idea.
