So apparently a pretty popular Marauders era fanfic just got licensed by a publisher and I'm not sure how to feel about it. Like, I kind of get it with AUs that are often pretty far removed from the original canon anyway but this fic is very canon compliant and I just don't see how you could reasonably file off the serial numbers to get it to a credibly original state.
I'm also not thrilled about this blurring the legal lines even more. I know it's been a thing for years now but with stories that are this close to someone else's intellectual property, I fear things will get really messy someday.

I'm usually not a fan of this, but anything which deprives Mister Galbraith of even a penny of cash is fine by me.

The thing is - she's rich and powerful enough that if she actually tried to make a lawsuit out of this, the closer it is to her own intellectual property, the bigger her chances are.

Not AO3 as a whole but I don't like the increased scrutiny something like this could bring towards the already grey area of fanfic legality.

Is it a m/m fic?
Haven't been in the fandom in decades so not sure what the big titles there are. Many fics-turned-books are het so I am interested to see what this'll be about!

I haven't read it myself but heard this from a friend who read it- it's a Sirius/Remus fic. Title is All the Young Dudes. They're apparently calling the published version Wolf Boy or something, so I guess they'll try to lean more heavily into the werewolf topic but still, it's basically a full background story of the Marauders' time at Hogwarts so... idk.
