Transcript - The Devil Wears Prada 2

I really enjoyed the first movie, I've watched it multiple times and I think I even saw it in theaters, it was a classic, but I have absolutely zero interest in this. I'm tired of the nostalgia bait. Not everything needs sequels, prequels, or to be rebooted. Some things just need to be one-and-done, with a story that is resolved in one go.

I'm tempted to say "Tale as old as time" when looking up certain Golden Age of Hollywood franchises (seriously, look up Francis the Talking Mule), or how everyone seemed to want a crack at certain properties (Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, anyone?)-- though I'll concede that prequels seem to be a more recent phenom.

It helps if you remember that MGM's old motto aside, the movie industry is an INDUSTRY and they are working to please shareholders like most businesses.

This is how I feel about Edge of Tomorrow. An amazing movie that I love, but it really, really doesn't need a sequel.

Agreed. I'm just... over the idea of reboots and revisiting old media that's still beloved. I can't think of a single instance where that really worked out off the top of my head.

Top Gun: Maverick (2022) made about 1.5 times (adj for inflation) what Top Gun (1986) made and was nominated for an Academy Award for best picture.

Blade Runner 2049 (2017) made over 2.5 times (adj for inflation) what Blade Runner (1982) made and was nominated for 3 more Academy Awards than the original and won 2 and was much better received since Blade Runner took a while to become as beloved.

On the other hand, you also have Backdraft 2 (2019) and Kindergarten Cop 2 (2016) which I didn't even know existed until I went to look up dates for sequels, so I'm guessing they didn't do that well.

Ha! I'd forgotten about Top Gun: Maverick and Blade Runner. I'd never heard of the other two, either.

I agree, but I'm still going to pay to see this.

I agree on principle, but also Stanley Tucci

Right, OP? I mean, if the characters (minus Anne Hathaway's) are all still working the same jobs after all these years, how depressing is that prospect?
