There's this person in our community whose clout farming is very blatant. You've got everything from ignoring old OOMFs once they'd acquired some more well-known ones, to blatantly stealing and repurposing others' jokes. One time I searched up one of their
tweets and found the exact tweet VERBATIM posted by another user three years earlier. It's pathetic, and I have a lot of contempt for them.

S!b: This person had a lot of success making friends by repeating funnier people's jokes, at the exact same time I was putting a lot of earnest effort into engaging with people through art, writing, conversation, etc, and made zero friends.

This was before the rise of AI, but truly a lesson for the AI era, amirite?

Oh yeah, assholes like that always existed, and frankly, may be the only reason I ever had any respect for Joe Rogan, who turned out to be a douchebag but was willing to call out joke stealers like Carlos Mencia. (and yes, I know this secret isn't about either person)

But yeah, it really sucks to see thieves rewarded and never held accountable. If they put half the effort into creating something that they did stealing others' work... well, I guess it's no guarantee it'll be good, but at least it'd be their own. And they might learn that it's okay to not be insanely good at everything.

I tend to believe that being like this is its own kind of karma - that whatever validation this person receives does almost nothing to nourish them and that very few of their social connections are enduring and meaningful in the long term.

Maybe that's just petty cope on my end (as someone who is a bit too withdrawn for my own good and absolute ass at social networking) but I don't really think it is.

Monetizing tweets and other social media was a massive mistake. It just feeds into terrible content just to be edgy and start arguments to boost numbers, and stolen material.

People should be shamed for stolen tweets and content.
