Saw the new Gen10 starters on stream and I've never been so disappointed in Pokemon designs before. I can usually find at least one starter that I like, but not in this case! There's just something so unfinished-feeling about these designs and it makes me sad. :(

secret bc everyone seems to think they're adorable and have fallen in love with them and I just do Not agree. They just don't look like Pokemon to me! :((

I mean, they're okay, but to me they just look like updated versions of starters we already got :/.

I do think they're adorable, but extremely derivative of other adorable Pokemon that already exist. I'm not too bummed about it though because at least they are derivative in a cute way and there are so many Pokemon now that it's getting harder to be totally original.

Yeah, I think I'd be a lot more critical if this weren't, y'know, gen 10. Eventually it gets hard to come up with new designs that aren't at least a little bit similar to ones that already exist.

Agreed. I was about to say we've never had a fire dog before and then I remembered Growlith exists, even if Pombon looks like they're based on a Pomeranian. For grass birds we've had Rowlette and for water lizards we've had Sobbel.

I think that's why they brought back Chikorita, Totodile and Tepig. Although, Pombon sorta fits the idea that the fire pokemon are following the zodiac...

I'm okay with these but I hated Gen 8. Gen 9 was a mixed bag. Although the evolutions will decide things. I just wish they wouldn't keep making the heads so big with plushies in mind first. Sprigatito is a good example of a design that would look better with less cartoony proportions, and the water gecko is the same.
