I gotta think that Dragons have armor, and their flamebreath range is limited, but the are more manoeuvrable than a WW1 plane.

The planes are probably straight line faster, and the machine guns can strafe from a distance.

Could go either way, it'll come down to tactics. If they can get a squadron of planes up before the dragon knows they are there, and do the old attack from behind thing, I think the planes get it.
