I’m not trying to be a jerk here, but Mizu is not a transgender character. Of course, you can have your head canons and personal interpretations about Mizu (everyone has some), but that doesn’t make them true or more real than others. Plus, the writers/creators of the show have said openly that they based this character on their own biracial daughter.

Personally, I see Mizu as a woman (maybe a gender nonconforming woman but not so much by choice) who is simply not traditional nor hyper feminine. Plus, let’s not forget that Mizu never had a girlhood. She’s never been allowed to be a woman openly and 100% on her own terms (which is interesting because in that sense she’s actually very much like a trans-woman instead of a cis one).

I understand that trans people want canon representation, but this show isn’t really it. Having said that, Mizu IS a very relatable character in general (the world deserves more well written female characters, especially ones who are also women of color and who are not traditionally feminine). Everyone should watch “Blue Eye Samurai” at least once. The animation style is really beautiful.

Haven't watched the show but this sounds closer to my experience than most trans fiction tbh. I don't really consider myself trans (except that technically I can say I fall under the transgender umbrella or whatever) because my experiences are so different than most people, I don't mean to say anything bad about trans people, I just truly don't relate whatsoever to the way they describe their situation usually and it's pretty alienating. So I sympathize with why OP could have worded the secret that way even if it may not be accurate to the canon. I may have to give this show a watch myself. It sounds great.
