Honestly the only mention I've seen on this show coming out has literally been people on Tumblr yelling at people not to watch the tv show - so much so that they made the Harry Potter tag trend and then got mad about it trending lol.
Kind of surprising since I definitely seen more advertising for the audio books in the run up to the release compared to the new tv.

I can believe that I once saw a boosted post on there CRITCIZING HP in some way and a few notes were like "hdu put HP on my dash"

like boosting probably isn't the best idea as people might resent it.. but that response seemed really... odd to me. Especially when the whole post seemed critical of HP and JKR's views.

I’m not on any social media other than Reddit, so I’m not sure how mentions vary across platforms.

It’s getting mentioned somewhere because various media outlets report that the trailer broke records:

“After the first 48 hours, it had reached more than 277 million organic views across platforms, making it the most-watched trailer in HBO and HBO Max history.”
(The Hollywood Reporter)

It will be interesting to see where and how the new fandom evolves because the market is clearly there.

I'm honestly curious about how it's going to turn out. I don't have any little kids in my life, so I don't know if it's still popular with children or not. I know reading in general is less popular than it used to be, but is Harry Potter still a series kids enjoy? Comments I read online are very divided, some people say their kids/kids they know absolutely don't care, while others say it's still a fairly popular series. I'm just wondering how it'll all turn out.

Also like. IRL I have never heard a single person comment negatively about JKR. It's such a huge switch from the online discussions.

It seems most kids today either aren't familiar with the series or don't care about it. I think the producers are betting on the reboot, with its relatively modern setting and its fresh faces, to create a new generation of young fans. As well as appealing to the nostalgia of adults who were never particularly active in fandom or left those days behind. It might pay off. The story is a stereotypical hero's journey of the type that tends to garner mass appeal.

The new adaptation is apparently canon-plus-Pottermore and draws on unpublished material, so active, perpetually-online fans are likely to detest it. But most of them are boycotting or otherwised predisposed to dislike it because of JKR.

Anyway, I'll have my popcorn out this Christmas. :)

I wish it was me. Mutual doesn't shut up about it and a I am considering unfollowing her about it even though we have been fandom friends for more than 10 years
