When the camping trips go wrong Calvin's mom does often end up making comments like "I told you we should have gone to (other place) instead!" or muttering "Every year I say we should go somewhere else, but does he ever listen, nooo..." which implies they argue about where to go every year and the dad always wins. But the trips going wrong and the dad being stupid about it makes it pretty clear that the writing is on the mom's side and it's not good that she never gets a real say.
