A Pixar movie called "Be Fri" was recently cancelled. It was about a platonic friendship breakup between two girls. I am honestly SO sad that this was cancelled. Of course I didn't see it myself or know much about it, but I feel like friendships are such a huge part of adolescent girls' lives, this movie had so freaking much potential and really could have been amazing. A friendship breakup is something that so many people go through (at various times in life actually), and I wish our society acknowledged more how difficult that it can be.

I have never used this word to refer to myself ever, but I don't know if I could watch a movie like this without getting insanely triggered.

It was generally one of the worst periods of my life. The Edge of Seventeen has a shockingly close portrayal but I hate how that movie ends. Nadine doesn't owe anyone an apology. She deserves an apology from basically everyone in the cast.

Granted, it's not about the friendship break, it's instead about two girls' friendship being tested to see if it can last, but maybe Dreamwork's upcoming "Forbidden Island" might be up your alley? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8RHqN93qfo

I'm pretty excited for it, at least.

That sounds fun! But friendships being tested to their limits and surviving is extremely common in media and even more so in media for/about adolescent girls.

Fair enough and that's true. There rarely are films about the breaking up of a friendship and how to process from the aftermath.

Yeah! I saw the trailer for Forbidden Island again today while at the movies, I wanna see it so badly.

This is the movie my inner adolescent needs to see. I’ve never gotten over the heartbreak of two friendships ending. And as you say, it just isn’t something ever seriously/genuinely portrayed in media, it’s typically a comedy trope.

Oh man, I would be SOBBING. Though perhaps it was scrapped for a reason? Depending on what the argument and split was about maybe they didn't know how to make it hit in a way that they wanted to.

Yeah, I would have liked to see how that movie would have played out. Friendship breakups, especially between girls/women, are pretty emotionally charged and we don't talk about it enough. It's either a romance or the protagonist learning to be themselves/better.

I hadn't heard about that movie before this, it is sad it was canceled. I'm still not over a lost friendship from last year, this might have been cathartic to watch.

lol i appreciate the sentiment but fandom people mostly don't give a shit about friendship. it's all about the shipping. if they aren't fucking, no one cares about them. if you aren't into shipping you are in a small minority in fandoms. this goes for all people. straight, gay, bi, aro/ace, trans, cis, nonbinary. all of them.
