Yes. Yes it is.

[identity profile] kitty-wake.livejournal.com 2009-12-07 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. You're a terrible person.

But to be fair, Star Trek takes place in a utopian atheist meritocracy type world where we're worried about android discrimination and being assimilated into the Borg Collective and the like. (Poor Data!) It really doesn't sound like your sort of thing, unless you care to explore the Mirror Universe.

[identity profile] oldstarnewshine.livejournal.com 2009-12-07 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
So it's not your thing. Big whoop.

[identity profile] tinitrinity.livejournal.com 2009-12-07 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)

...honestly, I don't really care I just love using this icon.

[identity profile] scotchsour.livejournal.com 2009-12-08 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
Responding to icon: Yes, yes he does.

[identity profile] rabidrainbow.livejournal.com 2009-12-07 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Just curious, why?

'Cause I love Star Wars (I first watched it when I was three and still impressionable, haha) but I've never been a fan of the EU at ALL and according to my Star Wars loving friends, this is some sort of crime as well. Also, I thought The Phantom Menace was the best of the prequels.

In the end, like what you like and fuck the haters. If SW and ST aren't your thing, then don't worry about it.

[identity profile] mimes.livejournal.com 2009-12-07 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course you're nuts! I mean, it's not as if sci-fi exists beyond Star Trek and Star Wars or anything

[identity profile] iiiskaaa.livejournal.com 2009-12-07 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
If you like distopian and post-apocalyptic fiction, I can see why you might not like Star Trek, at least. I like it, but I think it's soft sci-fi, and it's never really... I don't know, made me think that it would be an interesting future to live in, if that makes sense? It's fluffier than I usually prefer sci-fi to be.

[identity profile] rampant-chaos8.livejournal.com 2009-12-07 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I kind of know what you mean, anon. I still love both Star Wars and Star Trek, but my favorite sci-fi is the kind of stuff you're talking about. (In particular, I love dystopias and futures gone wrong. My favorite book is 1984 and my favorite movie is The Matrix, if that gives you some idea.)

[identity profile] sparklywalls.livejournal.com 2009-12-07 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Omg nooo! Turn in your sci-fi badge AT ONCE!

Seriously though, the genre is more than those two things so if they're not your thing then that's fair enough.

(Anonymous) 2009-12-07 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Dear OP, please rec me novels? I'll love you forever and ever!

SHUN THE NON BELIEVER!

Kidding, kidding, not really.

[identity profile] box-life.livejournal.com 2009-12-08 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
There are loooots of other fish in the sea. Those two just happen to have huge fandoms, and huge amounts of canon. The latter is why I'm only a casual fan of either (though Star Wars is the origin of my geekiness, so I must love it a little).

Don't blame you in the slightest.
ext_386190: little bird (luke)

[identity profile] hey-feygele.livejournal.com 2009-12-08 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
That sounds entirely reasonable. I love them both (by which I mean original trilogy & TNG) for their optimism. Well, and the aliens and the spaceships and technology and overcoming adversity/exploring different cultures, and the characters and blah blah blah; it's cool, OP.
ext_22037: (whaaaaaaaaat)

I am having such a hard time choosing which icon to use to reply to this.

[identity profile] flax.livejournal.com 2009-12-08 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't call Star Wars sci-fi, anyway (space opera? yes), and your taste makes it pretty obvious why you wouldn't like Star Trek, either.

BUT YOU'RE STILL A BAD PERSON AND YOU SHOULD FEEL BAD
ext_52635: (Default)

[identity profile] mekkio.livejournal.com 2009-12-08 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
That's it. You are out of the club. Turn in your card.

But seriously, what do you like? Mad Max? The Road? War of the Worlds? BSG?

[identity profile] dixxiemae.livejournal.com 2009-12-08 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, nothing wrong with that--everyone's got different tastes. I DO think it's unusual for a sci-fi fan to NOT like either one or both of those, but it's not wrong.
ext_19953: (it's just an object. (in SPAAAAACE))

[identity profile] mutantjules.livejournal.com 2009-12-08 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
it's a bit of a crime against MY CHILDHOOD ;___;, but like/don't like whatever you want it's all good. Sci-fi, like space, is really really big, and comprised of way more than just those two. :D

[identity profile] flyingcharr.livejournal.com 2009-12-08 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
This is understandable as there is more to science fiction than what we are spoon fed in popular culture, but for myself who was in fact spoon feed such material from the time I was a wee lass I can only gasp in horror at such an admission. XD sorry.

[identity profile] ivymutant.livejournal.com 2009-12-08 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
I love Star Trek (or bits of it) but hate hate hate Star Wars (barring KotOR, and that's more because it's an awesome game). Trust me, like what you like, only idiots will critise your tastes in genres for not liking one or two famous names.

[identity profile] poisontea.livejournal.com 2009-12-08 05:24 am (UTC)(link)
Nah, you're good. o7

[identity profile] tx5mym5.livejournal.com 2009-12-14 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
That's not really shocking.

Star Wars is more space opera/fantasy. Star Trek is overall utopian (excluding the Mirror Universe).
