I don't know who you are, but it looks like you have been in fandom roughly as long as I have. One issue you have to consider is that there is now a generation of fic writers who are writing fanfiction only for the slash.

I just miss the days when people wrote good, gen fic. Nowadays the only fic which is written is porn, and when people go into fandom, they do it because they have a "ship," which they look for fic about.

Please don't generalise across all fandoms. Not every fandom is like this.

Though I have no idea how people define gen any more. If there's a canon couple and they're an established couple in the fic, but the fic isn't *about* them being a couple, is that gen? If so, I have have read many, many plotty gen fics in my fandom.
