Re: Steve/Bucky
(Anonymous) 2026-04-09 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)I legitimacy don't think they saw it that way, I once saw an interview with the writers who consider the Steve+Bucky relationship as brothers, obvs they're not but when straight guys are writing guys Like That they really don't tend to see how it can come off.
I mean mainstream media picked up on it.

(Anonymous) 2026-04-09 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)I don't think they did either. I think it speaks to a very strong underlying homophobia or comphet whereby they didn't even notice what template they were using for the story because it never even occurred to them that anyone could see that in a story they told.

(Anonymous) 2026-04-09 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)Yeah, I agree they really didn't see it, but I think it is just their straight glasses glued on too tight. Legit if they had written Bucky as a woman and changed nothing else I think they would have automatically had it as a romantic relationship. Lots of straight guys are like that I've found. Especially the subconsciously homophobic ones where if pressed they'd say something about how neither character "acts gay" or something and has weird ideas about what a gay relationship looks like but has never really thougt about it too deeply.
Not saying the writers are like that, I actually know barely anything about them, bit I've encountered a lot of men like it.
