Why is it that independently these two [Rose and Ten] are such awesome characters, but together they were terrible? Rose was so great with 9, and 10 was amazing with Donna and good with Martha. But these two together? Didn't work.

I agree and I’m tempted to put it down to how romantically they were framed, but admittedly I’m not a fan of Doctor/human companion romantic relationships.

Same. Didn't care for Rose/10, and Doctor/Companion stuff is inevitable, but should stay in fanfiction, not canon.

Hard same. At one point I shipped Donna and Ten because I love friendship ships. but the Doctor really just doesn't work with humans for me. At least not normal humans. I do like him with River.

I'm not a fan of Doctor/Human generally either... but damn, I'm a minor hypocrite because I have a soft spot for Two/Jamie and Twelve/Clara despite my reservations.

I was going to say I 100% agree with you, then I remembered that I shipped Thirteen and Yaz, although that was more subtext than Ten and Rose ever was.

Yes, but also they were just mean and nasty together. It's like they brought out the worst in each other.

I guess it’s been a while since I’ve watched their run of episodes, I don’t remember that so well.

Any particular traits you saw them bring out in each other or any specific moments you remember?

Agree, I loved Rose's chemistry and character dynamic with 9, and I liked 10 with other characters, but 10 and Rose really didn't work for me. I'm not the biggest fan of 10 overall I suppose, but I definitely liked him a lot more without Rose, and I liked Rose as a character a lot without 10.

Some characters are awesome on their own but wouldn't mix well with certain other characters. Can you picture House with Mac Taylor?

I know it's a widespread view in the fandom, but I don't share the hate at all. I love them both separately and as a unit. To me, their relationship is a natural evolution of Rose and 9's previous relationship, which was already pretty exclusive/possessive, even lovey-dovey at several times. Also, 9 wasn't kinder to Micker than 10. I wonder if it's David Tennant (a younger, conventionally "prettier" man) playing the role that subconsciously influences some viewers to reject the same behavior they didn't when Christopher Eccleston was the Doctor. Personally, I love seeing Rose and 10 being happy together and so clearly loving the journey they are on.

I’m actually fairly neutral on Doctor/Rose, but you’re very right about Nine and Mickey. I often wondered why people seemingly forget that Nine could be a dick to him too.

Interesting, I didn’t realize that people thought Nine was anything but a dick to Mickey.

I would have said that Nine could undoubtedly be quite casually dismissive and impatient or straight-up rude, whereas Ten was overall nicer (though of course he had his own brand of deep anger). And I say this as someone who was very fond of Nine.
