I have a very vivid memory of my dad doing this as a kid. He offered to get me any package of candy I wanted. I picked Twizzlers, partially because one of my favorite authors liked them, and also because I never got to have them except at Halloween, and. Y'know. Genuinely liked them.

He expressed disapproval, and I picked up Reese's, which I knew he liked. And he was very satisfied that I imitated his tastes. I don't know why my favorite would matter to him...?

He's also done it at restaurants when I'd want something like a salad instead of the meatiest meat thing on the menu.

This is one of those times when I'm very glad to be an adult...
