I am sick to death of this dude. The fanon version of him is very moe and OOC, and fans' preference for "cute G'raha" has bled into his official writing. And since he's the most popular character in the game, the devs assume that the player loves him, so he's always up my ass.

B!S: I wouldn't mind as much if either of my faves were alive, or if one of them hadn't got done REAL dirty by the writers. It's tough to be happy for others' feasts when your own dinner comes out burnt. :(

B!S2: It's actually a red flag to me if someone legit, whole-heartedly hates him. Like, what's your problem? (My feelings about the flanderized catboy are complicated.)

Awww, I like G'raha.

Granted I don't like him as much as I think the game thinks I do, but I like seeing him around and he's fun enough. But you do you OP, I was not a fan of Zenos at all and yet knew several people who adored him so we all have our own likes/dislikes.

It's really funny that you say that, since Zenos is one of the faves I was talking about, haha. (His role in EW was way overhyped for what it turned out to be, and I think he went out on a bad note for his character. I would have preferred for him to stay dead after STB, tbh--but that's beside the point.)

I liked the Exarch a lot, and I still really enjoy G'raha when they treat him with, you know, dignity. I'd mind him less if they hadn't leaned so hard into him being "cute" in 5.4 and beyond, OR if he wasn't such an overbearing presence in MSQ; but since it's both, I struggle. And of course, the fanart is overwhelmingly of this same tenor, so there's no escape, haha. (But I'm glad you're having a good time!)

Oh man it's funny how we can have different views, which is cool. Just for me when he turned up in EW before bird I literally yelled 'LEAVE ME ALONE' lmao so I get just not vibing with a character and wanting them gone, to an extent.

I'm not a hardcore fan I just think he's fun, but because I like him well enough his presence doesn't seem overwhelming the way it does for you. Which does suck when you just don't gel with something.

That character just /looks/ super annoying. Why would it be a red flag to hate him?

He's in a role where people can come up with some really fucking stupid attempts at reading him as evil? idk I've never found anyone who full-on hates him, but I sort of fell out of the fandom a year or two back.

Really? lol, that might be a smidge me, if I'm being honest. Not in any serious way, I know that's how you mean it, people can get really tin hat about the smallest thing, and it can get real heated real fast. But I do definitely have a habit of wearing my aluminum headband at times, myself.

I can definitely see why that'd be a red flag if someone truly means it though. (but part of me would think it hilarious if the creators went left field and made him evil, definitely would not want to be in the blast radius though)

In fairness, I picked an annoying screenshot on purpose. In earlier parts of the story, he was a much cooler, more "serious" character, but then the devs started making him "cute"; and there was this cutscene with him eating a burger that people really liked; and then eating food became a staple of his character, both in the fanon and in-game... In short, it encapsulates everything I'm complaining about, haha.

I think it's a red flag to full-on hate him because imo he's a very straight-forwardly good and kind character. That earlier, cooler version of him makes some kind of morally grey choices--while being unequivocally the player's ally, he lies to you A LOT--but it's clear by the end of the story that he was doing his best with a real shit situation. (Like "two entire planets will die if YOU, G'raha, don't figure out a solution"-type situation.) But he very conspicuously does his best to minimize any harm that comes to the player, and he apologizes profusely for the whole thing afterwards, so he knows he did wrong by lying. That whole arc is EXTREMELY well-written, so from an audience standpoint, I can think of no legitimate reason to hate him. For what; playing a major role in a killer story??

(And for the record, I DID once have someone at a fan event tell me very directly that they hated his guts. I was passing out freebies--my own fave is widely and aggressively hated, so I made a bunch of G'raha freebies to hand out to everyone else, figuring he was the safest choice. A bunch of people had already looked me in the eyes and told me they hated my fave, which I'd expected, but I wasn't prepared to hear it about G'raha Tia, the people's catboy! But maybe the real red flag is someone who reacts that way to a stranger, haha.)

Moenbryda fan, I'm guessing from that b!s? Cause, yeah, the writers seemed to just not like her.

Haurchefant and Zenos, actually--which is really embarrassing to have to admit, when Moenbryda fans are definitely suffering more than I am! (Mostly I just miss having someone to be amped for, and it's easy to covet other people's stuff when you feel like you don't have anything, haha.)

At the same time, if I'm remembering correctly, G'raha and Moenbryda--AND Ysayle, I think; another criminally done-dirty character--were all created by Ishikawa, when when she was still a staff writer and then shelved/killed by other colleagues. Not a lot she could do about those last two, but when she got to be the main scenario writer for SHB, she saw the opportunity to reintroduce the only one who was still alive. So honestly, good for her; besides the fan enthusiasm, I can appreciate her wanting to have him around as often as possible.
