I've only played the first Bayonetta, and she has a relationship with a female character that plays out more or less like an enemies to lovers ship except it's platonic. It's by far the most popular ship in the fandom. But her male love interest was always there too and they officially got together so I don't know why anyone would be at all surprised that the sequel didn't change things.

I was also surprised the canon ship is so unpopular, though. Both relationships seem very much written to appeal to women; the guy is soft and adoring and just troubled enough to want to comfort but not need to fix. Even if lesbians don't care, I'd think plenty of bi women would like the ship.
