I think they're marketed to a female audience, but specifically a SEXUALLY SUBMISSIVE female audience. Most smut doesn't appeal to me because I'm not submissive.

I also think many people consider 'sexually submissive female' interchangeable with 'female,' going by how often I see people treating dominant man/sub woman like it's not a kink, but just how every relationship should be.
