I am 40 and still watch anime and read manga. That is not the secret.

But I cannot bring myself to care about series with high schooler characters anymore. Educational institutes, popularity drama, sports days and culture festivals.. I'm too old for that shit.

Same here! No judgement for people who do like those stories. But, I moved on a long time ago. Once in a great while, I might enjoy one for a little bit of nostalgia, but most of the time it's an automatic skip.

Yeah. I finally hit that wall in my mid 30s. I'm in my 40s now and have reached the point where I mostly can't do college kids either.

This is me with video games (especially RPGs) with characters that are teenage protagonists and/or based in high school stuff (I was homeschooled during those years, so nothing remotely middle or high school resonates with me other than a feeling of annoyance). I can make exceptions for classic games or anime series from when I was younger (mainly Sailor Moon or Magic Knight Rayearth) but even then I have a hard time caring about anything where the principal cast are varying levels of under the age of 25 lmao.

If people like these kinds of stories, fine whatever, far be it for me to judge someone's tastes. On a personal level, the stuff doesn't do it for me.

Eh, I figure we're all one or whatever. I don't think I'm that much different from a high schooler, any more than I'm different from a man or a woman.

I'm the exact opposite - now that I've been an adult for 20+ years, I have a new enjoyment for stories about teenagers just because life was so simple back then even though it SEEMED so dramatic. Ah, to go back to the days when the worst thing you had to worry about was your homework and that test on Friday...

Haha, great point! Such simple problems the kids have..

Over 50 here, and while anime & manga is generally not my thing, I'm still okay with teen/high school fandoms. Though I will say it's been a while since any new one caught my attention (Stranger Things was probably the most recent), but that's true for shows in general too.

I'm getting near my 40s and have been feeling this. Admittedly I do watch the odd series with a teen and younger protagonist if there's a novelty or something that catches my interest - but over all I've been looking up older series I didn't get round to back in the day, since there's more series with adults featured in it or at the very least isn't set in a school (the last one I watched is Texhnolyze and R.O.D)

I still like things where the characters happen to be in high school but it's not primarily about being in high school. Natsume's Book of Friends is one of my favorites.
