The Sims is my favorite series of games, but the franchise is in shambles right now.

The Sims 4, which is the current main PC/console game, is allegedly winding down. There is supposedly not going to be any new substantial content released, just cosmetic items. (New furniture and clothes, but no new gameplay.)

Speaking of cosmetic items, they've added a marketplace to the game, and it's quite controversial. Players who create custom content for the game can put their content on the marketplace, but it's pricey. The quality is also not great. Most players are not happy.

They shut down one of the mobile games.

Another mobile game that was in development has allegedly been canceled.

The next big thing was referred to as Project Rene. That is still in development, but allegedly they have shifted their focus on that. It was supposed to be a mobile game that could also be played on PC, multiplayer, but with single player aspects too. Apparently, they've cut the single player aspects, and it will now be focused on mobile and multiplayer only. The focus for this title keeps shifting.

There's maybe going to be a newer version of Sims 4 coming out? It might continue to use some of the DLC that you bought? But maybe not??

And EA has been bought out.

There are so many rumors swirling around, and it's hard to know what's true and what's not. But nothing that has happened to the series lately is good, and none of the rumors are either. It's just depressing. I love this series so much, I've loved it for so many years, but it feels like it's going down the drain. My hopes for a robust new base game seem to be fading away to nothing.

But, at least I still have the first four games. Whatever slop they may release in the future, these games are still enjoyable. I'm just disappointed that there isn't something great on the horizon.
