I think it's just control freaks in general. The Internet has trained a lot of people that fandom is for them and only for them, and thye should never have to see anything they Don't Like, that makes them eve slightly uncomfy or that challenges their very narrow, immature worldviews in any way whatsoever.

There are a LOT of people who have a thin veneer of progressive politics over a deeply conservative worldview in fandom, and are deeply invested in appearing to be Good, Moral People, but haven't really thought through what that actually means or that there could be more than just one way of being a Good Person. They also haven't realized that there is a lot more to being a Good Person than just parroting the right talking points, or that actions matter more than words. Words are easy; actions are difficult and carry real risks. And at the end of the day, it's how we treat each other than matters most. Good is something people do, not something they inherently are.
