Re: Complain about any first-world problem that you had lately

It's absolutely performative. I'm a sucker for places like that though, maybe because I had to grow up in a very autistic cluttered grandma type of home I find comfort in trying to take care of my home's design (keyword: design it's not realistic to clean everyday lol) That's me too, but I'm not sure I like that anymore. I also lost many things after moving so maybe my passion for my stuff dwindled and now I want pretty and #aesthetic over meaningful, because meaningful means you will get sad if anything happens to your items :( so I'm really striving for that but some of it really is laughably unrealistic.

Me too! I grew up with a mother who had hoarding tendencies and especially when I was 5-15 years old, my house was a mess. I've never seen another house like mine IRL. It was... not incredibly dirty, but absurdly cluttered.
Now I take care of my house trying to do a not minimalistic design (I like stuff, especially colourful stuff), but a not so cluttered design full of "closed" furniture (like those glass display cabinets) and without cluttered surfaces.
I HATE CLEANING AND I HATE DUST. On the topics of itabeya, every time I see those open cabinets full of action figured I want to cry because how much time will they spend cleaning them??? Usually action figures are plastic and dust on plastic is fucking gross imho.

This makes a lot of sense! I'm sorry you lost things while moving :((( I know that can be pretty traumatic.
Personally I'm on the long journey of letting physical stuff go, so even my manga/action figure collection was significantly cut down these last few years, but GOD IT'S SO HARD LETTING GO. It's incredible how much emotions we feel for inanimate objects. I inherited some of my mother's hoarding tendencies and let me tell you donating/selling/throwing out my stuff is one of the hardest things I've done in my life.
So I feel you. Maybe thinking only about the aesthetic is about control.

Since you are all for the aesthetic now, maybe start simple? Like coordinated bed linens / carpets / curtains ? And instead of buying new furniture, you could buy coloured plastic or tissue sheets to apply on your cabinet surfaces.
...hope I'm making sense lol I've never been so aware of the fact that I have no idea how to talk about furniture in English
You can have a pretty cute room without spending too much on all the cool stuff. Take inspiration from the itabeya, but make it yours! :D

AYRT - Oh, that's cause you haven't seen mine it was something. To the rest of my family and few close friends and only to them because nobody else was even allowed inside. Think a mix of madmans workshop with tech geeks headquarters and the occasional classy vintage cutlery and maybe a party speaker in the bedroom because WHY NOT. The idea of having a pretty room for myself was a distant dream because first I would need a room for myself.

Now I'm obsessed with pretty rooms except I also hoard so it's about what's going inside boxes or how am I going to make my gothic lolita grandma energy jewelry look good next to my pink gunpla kinda struggle and then I cry because its not working lol.

Honestly, some of the itabeya that I see online look CHEAPER than what I have despite being poor because I have been collecting (hoarding) for ages. But it's cohesive, it's probably the collection of a kid who started working and collecting yesterday and only has a handful of merch of their favorite character and it's all the same color. I try to color-coordinate and since Nozomi and Kaworu are some of my faves too you will probably understand when I say I'm trying to make a black/white/purple/blue color scheme work, but suddenly raahhh a bunch of pastel colored shoujo manga collections and it makes me want to cry. Truly THE first world F!S problem of all time I fear.

Maybe, but it's nice hearing that you have this kind of problem. It's something frivolous maybe but it's also interesting to see what you are aspiring to in your private life (especially interesting how different your domestic goals are seeing how similar our past seemed to be, even if my house was "overworked parents with three kids" core, so mostly clothes / books / toys / VHSs EVERYWHERE)! I may not share your aesthetic preferences, but I understand where you are coming from.
And your love for Kaworu and Nozomi is noted, too! :DDD A black/white/purple/blue colour scheme seems cool and not too hard to pull off! Good luck and try not to be too hard on yourself or too obsessed by the ideal of the "perfect" room. <3

AYRT - Right, it's definitely a privilege to have this kind of 'problem' :) I'm not complaining except here, lol and *highfive* :D gonna do my best to not obsess (and calmly pick one between cold tones or pastels and NOT go back on it next week rahhrrr) LOL
