Vacations!

(Anonymous) 2026-05-13 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
What kind of vacations do you like? I realized recently that I really just enjoy laid back ones. I want to go some big city, visit one museum or landmark a day, be back in my room by 6pm, and eat good food the whole time. I want to stay in the touristy areas. I don't want to go to areas where someone is nodding off.

I'm so stressed in my daily life that I like vacations where I essentially put myself into a terrarium and someone else is responsible for keeping me alive. Cruises, all inclusive resorts, etc. I don't want to have to go anywhere, make food, do my bedding or laundry, or have to pay attention to things like prices or bus/rail lines. My last vacation I literally slept for half the day each day, ate whatever I wanted as much as I wanted from the buffet, and watched tv most of the rest of the time. I rarely went out for a stroll and still ended up losing an inch or so around my waist.

It's crazy how much stress hormones bloat the waistline. You don't realize it until you just... don't have to deal with stress for awhile. And it's like, oh. This is what life could be like without a gazillion daily bullets firing from all directions.

Laid back all the way. There are places I'd like to go someday. But my real life is so exhausting, when I'm on vacation, I really just want to sleep, read, and swim. Maybe one or two museums. But mostly rest.

I really mostly do staycations these days.

Same in regards to touristy areas. Spend the $$$ on luxe lodging, good food, and hit a few cheap or free venues/sightseeing.

I also like to rent cabins in relatively rural areas with pretty scenery and nearby low-key parks and scout for the local "it" spots like family-run specialty stores and produce stands.

I used to research, dream, and plan our vacations. That was part of the fun. Finding the hidden gems, mapping backroad routes, designing relaxed itineraries, looking for deals, basically taking my partner on a novel "tour." Unfortunately, I don't think we'll ever be able to afford a vacation again.

Not a big city fan. I like peaceful but that can vary from a historic English town complete with funfair (it's a great little funfair!) to very extreme environments. I like to see what's on the other side of the hill.

My favourite towns of my trips to Europe were Luterbrunnen in Switzerland, Prague and Edinburgh, so I tend to enjoy the older style of cities and tiny towns compared to modern utopias. I also like being surrounded by mountains and forests much more than the ocean, even though I grew up pretty much by the water (although that might be why).
