The way the voice actress for Professor Trelawney in the Audible full cast versions of Harry Potter performs the character is absolutely horrible. I absolutely hate it. Professor Trelawney is literally described in the books with terms like "airy-fairy" and "misty," but if I had to use one word to describe the voice actress's performance, I would go with "screechy." She is loud, sounds kind of out-of-control at all times. It's a whole different take on the character, and if it were like a movie or some kind of adaptation, it wouldn't bother me as much. But it's a direct reading of the source material and it does not go along with how she is described by the narrator and the other characters AT ALL. Also her voice when she was saying the prophecies wasn't right either. To me she is by far the worst performer of all characters.

I think if you're buying Harry Potter audiobooks in the year 2026 you deserve them being bad.

Honestly! DELIGHTED to hear any aspect of it sucks. Like, if you absolutely can't give up the franchise there were audiobooks by Stephen Fry and Jim Dale that you might already have, or might find secondhand on CD and I'd quietly judge you for still being into Harry Potter, but like, I wouldn't begrudge you those? I thought Jim Dale did all the characters ably, back in the day. I didn't think the books held up as an adult before the terf stuff but I would have at least understood the pull of nostalgia for other people back then.

I agree she's miscast - I love Saoirse-Monica Jackson in most things, but Trelawney wasn't it for her. Aside from the tone being off, she just sounds too young. She might have done a good Tonks instead.
