If you don't trust whoever the hell is ultimately in charge of Star Wars right now to do justice to the character, I get that. But if it's just a matter of thinking that her character can't work in the canon, the canon universe is really big and has lots of nooks and crannies to fit stuff into, so there are lots of ways to bring any character in without impacting other characters' development. Just off hand, I can think of three scenarios that wouldn't change where Luke ended up, if done right - she doesn't have to have interacted with Luke at all, she interacted with him way later, or she did interact with him and somebody messed with his mind afterward and he doesn't remember it.

Her story is so tied into Luke, though. I can't see them doing her character justice if she and Luke never interact.
