Marvel's casting department for their TV shows is pretty spot on. They are able to always find a cheaper actor who looks and sounds like a more expensive "name" actor, and who can actually act as if they were a "name" actor too. That is some true genius.

They did this with the lead actors in most of the movies in Phases One and Two in the movies, too. they found actors who were relatively unknown but had solid histories in Hollywood, and cast them as the leads, and then a couple of higher profile actors in supporting roles.

Who? Which movies? Chris Hemsworth is the only one I can think of so I’m curious who I’m overlooking

A lot of the actors are big names now, but were less so then.

Ok, so who? I’m aware everyone got uber famous and rich as a result but Chris Hemsworth is the only one I can think of who wasn’t already a famous name who had starred in blockbusters before.

Chris Evans had been in some things, but he wasn't particularly well known. Same with Jeremy Renner. Tom Holland was really just starting out.

All of those but Holland are phase one and two. I was thinking he was two, but I checked and Spider Man was phase three.

Jeremy Renner wasn’t one of the marvel stars of phases one or twos he never had a standalone movie. And Chris Evans had starred in blockbusters. Tom Holland would have been a young child around the time we’re talking about.

Also, I probably should have said but I was really asking if the person who made the claim because they seemed to have people in mind. But literally no one from phase one and two fits their claim except Chris Hemsworth.

Chros Evans was not a household name at the time.

Yes, he was. He was actually considered a has-been because Rise of the Silver Surfer was a huge letdown.

RDJ was actually a risky choice at the time. Chris Evans wasn't the biggest name during his casting either.

RDJ was a risk yes but he was an Oscar nominee and was famous as an actor more than fifteen years earlier. Chris Evan’s wasn’t the biggest name but he was a big name and had starred in blockbusters. Scarlett Johansson was a huge name. Mark Ruffalo was a huge name when he took over as Hulk and it was actually a big kerfuffle because he seemed wrong for the part. Jeremy Renner wasn’t but also he didn’t have any movies before Avengers and no stand alone.

Maybe I didn't parse this part correctly, but are you talking about the Academy Award nominated actor for 2009's The Hurt Locker (the first Academy Award Best Picture winner to be directed by a woman, Kathryn Bigelow, the first woman to win Best Director)? Because I remember that being kind of a big deal. (He was also nominated for Best Supporting Actor, for The Town the year after that). So, I would say he was actually known before his first appearance in Thor (2011).

The new post is up so you probably won’t see this but despite The Hurt Locker, no one knew who he was. It used to frustrate me because I was a huge fan of his because he was in some of the most amazing indie films. I was so happy for him when he joined the MCU! But whether I was chatting with coworkers or posting on LJ in fandom spaces, not once did anyone know who he was except one House fan who recognized him from his one episode of that show. His salary when he joined the MCU was pitiful considering the Oscar noms.
