Having read the comment "Sometimes I feel like K is playing to an audience of 30 year old clones who have just been released into the wild and must learn how to be human," on Dr. K's Disco Elysium playthrough: 1) It struck true to me as someone who does watch Dr. K on occasion lmao. and 2) if Javert ever made it to the modern era, someone really needs to sit him in front of one of Dr. K's videos.

I feel for Javert because the dude probably started off life feeling like his existence is inherently wrong, and overcompensated in a horrible way. His character seems evergreen, and I can't help but yearn for him to have become unbroken even by a small amount. Ah, my heart.

... I think I'm too tired for this because I cannot for the life of me parse what this secret is trying to say.

OP: oh to submit myself to the mortifying ordeal of having a bad secret.

the TLDR is that I sympathize with Javert because I personally think he grew up badly, and has no proper socialization.

Anon, you are not alone.

I am genuinely confused by this secret. The commentary included about Disco Elysium is pretty spot-on, so I don't understand why people think it's for clones who don't know things about the world, and I understand even less what it all has to do with Javert, except that the world of Disco Elysium is vaguely French?

OP: I've explained it in another comment above yours but I feel for Javert because I think he grew up badly. Now I must laugh and cry as I deal with the consequences of submitting a bad, incomprehensible secret.

I also must laugh and cry at the Russel Crowe Javert. *dies*

AYRT

Oh, okay. Thank you, OP!

Philip Quast Javert is best Javert. I feel you, OP.

OP: You understand me, anon, and I'm grateful for it. :')

For what it's worth, I understood it!

I'm autistic, though, and I often wish for someone to explain things to me as if I'd just been released into the wild and must learn how to be human.

I'm not diagnosed with anything, but I feel much the same way. It always feels like people were all born knowing everything that I don't.

OP: oof, it's quite the mood, isn't it? No idea where everyone managed to get a hang of every unspoken ruleset for life, but wish they'd share lol.

(Anonymous) 2026-06-08 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
OP: I'm grateful that at least one person here understood what I meant lol.

As a fellow autism-haver, but also someone who came from a hard upbringing where I had no one, I agree. I'm hoping things have been better for you though on your journey!

OP are you familiar with book!Javert? IMO right before his big date with the Seine, he was at a turning point and on the verge of becoming less broken, if he'd stuck around.

I don't know much about Disco Elysium but I think it involves social commentary on policing/law enforcement-is that the connection to Javert?

I agree Crowe!Javert is sadly laughable.

OP: I wish wish wish I was as clever as you and a previous anon thought I was for tying Les Mis and Disco Elysium together for a sensible reason, instead of the truth where I tied my fave from Les Mis and self-help advice.

I actually haven't read the book yet, anon! Perhaps I may muster up the strength to read through the whole dang thing just to get to part. Will my heart still crumble when I get there though? Probably.

Thank you secret maker!

OP: Thank you for having pity on my confusing ass lol

(Anonymous) 2026-06-08 06:16 am (UTC)(link)
Ahhh now that I know Dr K is self-help advice. Your secret makes a lot of sense actually! I relate to Javert a little as well, in the sense that it seems so much more comfortable for the way my mind naturally works for things to be black-white and have a set of rules and clear expectations to follow. I know that he's a character who is supposed to be a criticism of the system, but I felt compassionate for him as an individual for being unable to wrap his head around nuance.

OP: Yeah, I just feel for him too! I feel there's a tragedy there in him being unable to comprehend forgiveness and an existence beyond sin and punishment. I'm grateful that you get where I'm coming from. Perhaps I need to read some fix-it fics though lol.
