(Gay IRL anon.) I agree with you 1000%. To a certain type of person, if you read all the right books and watch all the right films (and fulfill a certain quota of Black friends /gag/), then that makes you a Good Person, without ever having to meaningfully alter your view of the world or your understanding of your place in it--and CERTAINLY not go out and do anything about any of it. It's the "you are what you eat" model of morality; morality via consumption.

(Also that story about your friend made me cringe out of my skin, oh my god. 💀💀💀)
